PETROL CHEMISTRY

RELIABLE VIBRATION PROTECTION – AT ALL TIMES

The petrochemical industry is being shaped equally by fierce international competition and by the fact that it harbors high risk potential due to its sensitive materials and production environments. Digital security systems that meet modern Industry 4.0 requirements are therefore more in demand now than ever before and have to offer the industry stable operations and thus permanently high product quality. To guarantee complete process monitoring and premises surveillance in chemical plants, PIEPER’s portfolio includes ATEX-approved plants that were specifically designed for these environments and are primarily characterized by reliable explosion and pressure protection as well as futureproof IP camera technology.

When it is used in combination with appropriate analysis and management software, this solution becomes a highly integrative, digital video monitoring system that immediately triggers an alarm when a dangerous situation occurs and provides crystal-clear images to allow experts to assess the situation – and this even includes all the key location information for first responders.

From petroleum distillation to the petrochemical end product

Steam cracking is one of the most important processes in petrol chemistry. High temperatures of up to 900°C in furnaces make these and other processes difficult to control from outside. Since it’s an industry expert in visual process observation, PIEPER provides high-precision solutions to considerably cut the risk of accidents and damage with its monitoring systems featuring special combustion chamber or thermal cameras. The explosion-proof and ATEX-certified full HD combustion chamber system is one of the most powerful systems on the market at present. It records plant conditions, flame patterns and potential weak points in every corner of the combustion chamber at all times. Axial and radial systems – featuring rotating probes and integrated light control depending on requirements – make the solution (which can be adapted to existing process control systems) fit for use in futureproof Industry 4.0 scenarios too. PIEPER also offers an appropriately designed thermal camera system for analyzing hot spots and temperature distribution.

In the first production phase - refining - the previously catalytically desulphurised crude oil is distilled and thus broken down into lighter hydrocarbons. One of these so-called fractions is fuel, which is used either to run diesel vehicles or as heating oil. Another is naphtha: this is either used as a raw material for further processing or processed into petrol.

In the second production phase - petrochemical processing - the individual fractions obtained through distillation are processed into chemical products in further procedures. In cracking, for example, the long-chain hydrocarbons are heated to up to 900 °C using hydrogen. Under the extreme temperatures, the compounds split and important chemical raw materials such as ethene, propene and butadiene are produced.

PIEPER offers specially designed, ATEX-certified systems for holistic video surveillance in industry. Operators who have potentially explosive operating areas are thus on the safe side thanks to a significant minimisation of danger.

In combination with appropriate analysis and management software, a highly integrative, digital solution for industrial video surveillance is created: processes are observed from a safe distance and timely reactions to deviations are made possible. In the event of a hazardous situation, an alarm is immediately triggered and live images are immediately provided to assess the situation. The razor-sharp images contain all important location information for the prompt taking of appropriate measures, so that in the event of a critical incident, the situation can be precisely assessed and dangers can be counteracted immediately. As a result, operators benefit from significantly increased safety for companies and employees while saving time through accelerated processes.

Seamless video surveillance in the petrochemical industry

The challenging production environment in the petrochemical industry and the high hazard potential associated with the processing of chemical substances require special components, in this case robust, explosion-proof camera systems, within an intelligent video surveillance system that seamlessly records every step of the process.

With Ex-protected cameras, everything in view even in hot phases

As an expert for modern and sustainable video surveillance in industry, we know the special PIEPER the special requirements of adverse production environments.

Whether hot room monitoring using combustion chamber cameras and thermovision or durable and robust monitoring systems based on explosion-protected cameras in high-risk environments: The precise, integrative, digital systems for video surveillance pave the direct way into the age of Industry 4.0. and provide operators with significant competitive advantages such as a stable production chain, networked process monitoring and a significant reduction in the risk of accidents and damage.
